The Locust Road construction is a $4.02 million project in the Village of Wilmette. The project involves 0.5 miles of Locust Road from Wilmette Avenue to Lake Avenue. The improvements consist of storm sewer and watermain replacement, roadway reconstruction, sidewalk improvements, and intersection and crosswalk safety enhancements.
Pre-Stage Crews will install traffic control and construction warning signs and tree protection measures. A detour route will be implemented making Locust Road only open to one-way northbound traffic. Southbound traffic will be prohibited for nearly the entire duration of construction. Click here to view the detour map. Stage 1 Crews will install the watermain along the east curb line of Locust Road. The south third of the watermain (Wilmette Avenue to Lincoln Lane) will be installed first. The north third of the watermain (Lake Avenue to Community Playfield) will be installed second. The middle third of the watermain (in front of the schools) will be installed last and on Saturdays. Stage 2 Crews will reconstruct the east side of Locust Road. This includes removing the existing pavement; installing the storm sewer; constructing new curb and gutter, driveways, sidewalk, and asphalt pavement base; and parkway sod restoration on the east side of Locust Road from Wilmette Avenue to Lake Avenue. Stage 3 Crews will reconstruct the west side of Locust Road. This includes removing the existing pavement; constructing new curb and gutter, driveways, sidewalk, and asphalt pavement base; and parkway sod restoration on the west side of Locust Road from Wilmette Avenue to Lake Avenue. Crews will then construct the final asphalt surface layer and install all new pavement markings for the entire width of the roadway. |
